Mapping the world... one plant at a time

Note: If your BG-Map workstation is connected to the internet, BG-Map will automatically download any pending updates, inform you and install the updates automatically. If your BG-Map workstation does not have an internet connection, you can download the updates manually. For instructions on how perform a manual download, see the instructions below.

How to Download the Updates Manually

If the update does not download automatically, do this:

  1. Click "Save Page As" or "Save As" on the File pull-down menu of your web browser. Save this page index.html and transfer it to the Updates subfolder under the main Bgmapwin folder (If BG-Map is installed on a server, this folder will be on the server.)
  2. Click the "Exe Download" link of one of the updates listed in the table above. When prompted to save the file, save it and transfer to the same Updates folder in which you saved the file in Step 1 above.
  3. Repeat for each of additional updates listed if they have not yet been installed.

How to Determine Which Updates Have Already Been Installed

Click "About BG-Map" in the BG-Map help menu. The installed updates will be listed.

How to Install the Updates That You Downloaded

The updates will be installed automatically the next time you exit BG-Map.

What to Do if the Updates Do Not Install

If your BG-Map installation is on a server, you may see a message similar to this:

Install_Update_Item: Cannot read from m:\bgmapwin\updates\2011-003\BGM-UPD2011-003.fil.

This is most likely due to a permissions issue that prevents the installation program from copying files to the server. To overcome this, do the following (In this example, the update number is 2011-003. Substitute for this the actual update number that you are trying to install):

  1. If not already created, create the folder bgmapwin\Updates\2011-003
  2. Click the "Zip File Download" link and choose to open the zip file.
  3. Extract the zip file to the folder you created in Step 1.
  4. See if the update will now install when you exit BG-Map.
  5. If you continue to have problems installing the update, contact BG-Map.
